Welcome. I'm Rito, but some call me by my more formal name - Álgen
I'm honored to meet you here, being interested in hearing my story.

PROLOGUE SIDE QUEST:

Chosen One | Tokotas LoRE | Prologue | SQ by KULKELO

The Shrine of the Seven Stones - that's where the story begins. Little did I know what I would face after the day at the Shrine - however, I'm glad I made a right choice with touching the soothing pink and purple stone as it was the Stone of Sikrinerk - a spirit filled with joy and happiness. I had never met Sikrinerk before, still something about her was familiar. The talisman she gave me would later help me calm down, in addition to being a way to communicate with her.

Her - and the stone of hers - precence made me feel soothed and helped me to calm down in this new place. I had never been too into exploring new places - I was more into familiar places and competitions with my handler. But this was a right thing to do - to go through this journey.

CHAPTER COMMENT: → LINK ←

After leaving the Shrine of Seven Stones, I had arrived in an unfamiliar forest...
I walked down the beaten dirt path for a time that felt like forever. I was lost, everything around me felt unfamiliar. Those scents and sounds were strange for me - and I felt frightened. What had I done? I wanted to go home... But the talisman I had acquired warmed my leg, appeasing, as if it had sensed my anxiety. That steaded me to continue.

My muddy paws began to tire, when I finally encountered a fork in the road. I had to make a choice between a mountain path and a forest path, from which I chose the last-mentioned.

SIDE QUESTS:

ENTRY 1 ]
Fight or Flight | Tokotas LoRE | C1 | SQ by KULKELO
I continued through the forest that made me even more nervous the deeper I got. Deeper in the forest, that felt like it would never end. An unfamiliar place, that felt like it would like to suffocate me inside itself. It felt too... living, for being a forest only. Now that I think about it... it must have been full of spirits - both dark and light spirits. I was not too lucky with my first encounter.

It was already night - of course. As if I hadn't been nervous before, the darkness only fed it. I walked slowly, with soft steps. I felt like I was observed all the time even though I saw no one around me. I encountered another split in the path, but instead of following either of them I chose to follow a strange sound to underbush that peaked my interest. Maybe it would be something to hunt - I was hungry after a long journey. Though this one didn't sound like prey - maybe it was a new animal I had never encountered before?

After I follow the noise, the forest suddenly falls silent. Something doesn't feel right. That was a bad idea, I should've stayed on the path!

And then it stands before me - a twisted, grotesque creature - a dark spirit. The looks of it made me nauseated. It was a combination of animals, mud and plants, it's skin filled with red glowing veins. Red fireflies surrounded it. And the horrible, rotten smell made me feel unsteady.

The dark spirit didn't attack me - which surprised me. Instead it made a threatening series of growls. It was a challenge. A challenge, that was too much to handle for a young tokota like me. I had never been too keen on fighting. So I fled. I had never ran so fast in my life!
Fortunately the creature didn't follow.

Even though I felt wearier than ever, I had to continue. It didn't feel safe to rest for now. For several hours I walked forward, lost in this grand, endless forest.
Then, I had to choose again...

ENTRY 2 ]
Dancing with the Spirit | Tokotas LoRE | C1 | SQ by KULKELO
I saw a light of fire. I almost could feel its warmness, and almost automatically my paws would lead me slowly towards it. At a campfire I could  finally rest for a while. I was about to go, until a cloud of fireflies sprints outh of a bush. For a while they swirl around me, almost like dancing cheerfully - until they continue down the path away from the fire. Did they want me to follow? Fireflies usually don't act like this - there was something supernatural in their presence. I wanted to rest - but this was too interesting, I couldn't let them go alone! Maybe I could come back to the campfire later, I thought.

Fireflies lead me through the forest to a open plain. Finally! The plain was filled with faintly glowing moonflowers. The place was calming, there surely would not lurk any dark spirits. I felt safe.
On the field stood a young, pure white doe spirit. Her body glowed faintly. Playfully she bows like a puppy before me. How could I have resisted a short game with a cute spirit like this? I snickered, and joined her in the play.

I chase her - and every time I caught her, she disappeared, appearing mischievously several feet away from me. We both wiggled our tails, and with a prolonged tag play she lead me back to the forest. On a forest path, when I finally catch her, she suddenly disappears, nodding to me before. I noticed a glowing moon flower in a place where she had just stood.

ENTRY 3 ]
Shrine of Aga | Tokotas LoRE | C1 | SQ by KULKELO
After collecting the flower I find myself standing on a clearing. On the center stands an old, thick tree. It was the biggest tree I had ever come across! But when I inspect it, it looks more like a huge stump with only a few bold branches. Moss and flowers cover its surface, and numerous man-made objects are piled among its roots. In addition to that I notice carved runes on it.

That made me realize it's actually a shrine. And I was sure whose.

A flock of fireflies pop out from nowhere, again. They clearly want me to follow them again, to a river, a place where the rest I needed would be ideal to have. Yet the Shrine attracted me more than the rest I craved.
I leave the moon flower as an offering for The Shrine of Aga. Runes of the stump glow when the moon flower touches the base of the tree. I knew it would be Aga's - I just sensed it.

MAIN CHAPTER PROMPT:

Meeting with Aga - Tokotas LoRE | C1 | MAIN by KULKELO
What I did definitely not except was Aga herself appearing in front of me, when I turned around to continue my journey. She stood at the edge of the clearing, smiling. I remember the warm and peaceful feeling in presence of her.
Aga told me about my mission. The reason why Sikrinerk had chosen me.
She needed my help - but why me? I didn't understand the reason until the very end this journey.
I needed to capture a special lost spirit in a firefly lantern Aga gave me... And next I needed to find Nagruk, the god of hunt.
I felt important - but despite of that I couldn't shake of the fear of failure out of my head.

After I had met Aga, Mother of the Forest, I spent several days in the forest. I had to rest and hunt something, I would have been too tired to continue without.
Finally I find my way to outskits of Iluq Forest. Sunlight peaks through treetops - it must be morning already. Mist fills the ground, making me feel unsure. I had heard Iluq forest's terrain was not the most easy one. There were sudden holes and rocks - as I had noted while hunting there lately. It was good  I didn't break my bones, only got some scratches here and there.

SIDE QUESTS:
ENTRY 1 ]

Three Ravens | Tokotas LoRE | C2 | SQ by KULKELO
I heard a faint sound of flowing water beside me, and decided to change my path to following the river. Maybe it would lead me out of the forest? I needed to find Nagruk, and I didn't believe I would meet him here at the forest. I notice large birds resting on the trees. They watch me, caw at me. I feel nervous around them - what could they want from me?
For a while I continue, following the river, with only the sound of river accompanying me - until a raven caws loudly above me. I turn my head to see it, and it watches me intensively. I feel uneasy around it, and quickly continue my journey. Two more ravens gather around me, cawing at each other - like they were having some kind of conversation. I decide to ignore them, just hoping they would go away. They seem to be a bit too interested in a lantern of mine.

ENTRY 2 ]
Thief | Tokotas LoRE |C2 | SQ by KULKELO
Ravens didn't leave me alone. Instead, more of them came along. Probably they had been calling their friends with their caws. I should've tried to scare them off... I snarl at my own stupidy. I could never scare away all of these! What if they were dark spirits as well? Inherently, my bob tail slid tightly against me - not between my back legs, as it was too short for it.
I stopped to look at the crowd of ravens - and unnaturally they fall silent right away. And almost faster than light, a huge white raven flies past my head. He lands on a boulder, on the other side of the river. And he had my lantern hanging on one of his long claws! I didn't know what to do. Would I have to fight this raven - he's as big as I am! And his claws make me nervous. I imagine them against my skin, and it makes me shiver.

Then he spoke:
"Blackened teeth decorate my jaws, Blazing hooves and flaming paws, Eyes that burn and sides that heave, I’m an endless void you can never leave. Who am I?"
Oh, a riddle? I was surprised - this one wasn't after a fight, after all. I was so relieved. And the answer for this would be easy - at least I hoped so.
With a shivering voice I answered "Meelanik" - and a fear of a wrong answer weighted me. I didn't want to cause a disappointment for Aga and Sikrinerk!
I can hear my own heart beat on the silence, when I wait for an answer. Until the enormous raven cawed with the crowd of black ravend - did they laugh at me? I feared I had answered incorrectly. But against my  expectations, the raven croaked: "Good. Well chosen. Maybe you won’t end up in the Devourer’s belly!" and tossed the lantern back at my feet. I quickly collected it back, when the white raven - with the entire flock - leaved. I was so relieved.

[ ENTRY 3 ]
Nagruk's Shrine | Tokotas LoRE | C2 | SQ by KULKELO
After the encounter with the strange white raven I continued my journey until I arrived at a worn signpost outside of the forest, where a plain tundra began. An arrow at it pointed back at the dark forest. Not again, I don't wanna go back - I thought. Anywhere else would be better for now. The endless scene filled with threes tired me already.
Then I spotted something - a shrine at the tundra, a large pillar of rock with the base of it filled with objects. Even an interesting sound in the trees didn't make me want to go back there - so I decided trot towards the shrine.
When I arrive before it, I notice a picture of white tokota with antlers carved on the stone. This must be clearly Nagruk's shrine, I thought enthusiastically.
Carvings on shrine glowed with golden light when I walked closer at it.
Wagging my tail I left a lantern at the base of the shrine - I thoght it maybe would attract the great spirit Nagruk?
It definitely did, but now that I think about it - Nagruk would probably appeared without leaving the lantern. I feel kind of ashamed afterwards - I could've left something else... But to my defence, at that point I did definitely know what I had to do with the lantern!

MAIN CHAPTER PROMPT:

Lost Spirit | Tokotas LoRE | C2 | MAIN by KULKELO
Nagruk watched me with a smile when I turned around to leave the shrine. He laughed at me warmly, when he noticed I had left the lantern. I remember being so confused - I had thought I was supposed to give the lantern to Nagruk.
But he explained me everything - well, almost. I would find the final answers later.
I would capture the lost spirit with this lantern Aga had given to me. The spirit was drawn to living tokotas, it was restless trapped on here in the living world - it belonged with Aippaq. I felt confident around Nagruk, so I just nodded and agreed to everything.  The great spirit guided me back to Iluq Forest - which I was no too happy about. I was relieved I didn't have to go alone this time, though. I felt more confident than ever when being with him.
We ran for hours without tiring and jumped lightly over obstacles. I felt like I had known every step I took, even though I hadn't been in this part of the forest before. How awesome it would be to hunt with Nagruk, I thought myself, laughing. Surely that great spirit hadn't time to hunt with mortals.
Eventually we reached a clearing, the center of Iluq Forest, and Nagruk halts. I noticed a dark shape curled up on a boulder. It was my task to capture this spirit. She looked so fragile and frail, and was formed out of transparent mist, glowing dots shining on her "tail". Quickly the spirit awaked when I looked at it, swoops around in the air, looked at me, being as curious of me as I was of it. I looked at the spirit, being as calm as I could. I still felt my heart beat against my chest, faster than normal.  When the spirit noticed my lantern, it floated towards it. Its little nose touched the glowing lantern, and a light so bright I had to close my eyes flashed when the spirit was drawn into the lantern. It was trapped on the lantern now!  The poor soul was confused and angry, trying to get out. I hushed, tried to calm it down a little.
Nagruk advised me to find Sikrinerk - the spirit who has chosen me, and warned me about the devourer - Meelanik. I surely would not have wanted to encounter him...

 INTERLUDE
The following night I slept restlessly. Meelanik, Sikrinerk and Aippaq appeared in my dream. Each of them wanted the lonely spirit. But I was growing attached to it, I actually did not want to part with it...

But if I had to, it would be natural to choose Sikrinerk - she had been the one who chose me for this journey.
Now I had to travel to Aippaq's Shrine.

CHAPTER COMMENT→ LINK ←

I arrived at the crest of a hill at sunset. I saw a lone mountain in the horizon - but this was no ordinary mountain. It seemed like stone walls squirmed around the mountain base - they apparently formed a some kind of labyrinth. I knew I had to continue my journey there. That's the place I needed to go.
When I entered the labyrinth, I was afraid. I certainly did not want to meet more evil spirits... But I knew I had to. This was a challenge. I simply could not avoid them. Meelanik was after the Lonely Spirit. That made me shiver - that was simply twisted. How could he want to devour this lonely, cute and innocent little spirit? For me, that made no sense.

SIDE QUESTS:

First choice - left or right path?
Ugh, choices again... I didn't like making choices. I sighed, and took the left path - path was paved with rough, large stones. Carefully I continued walking at the path - until one of the uneven stones shifted beneath my paws with a clicking sound - and suddenly I fell! It was a trap!
I thud to a dark tunnel - and I could hear a sharp noise of glass breaking - it was the lantern. Despite of my aching muscles, I stood up, and quickly looked all around me. The lonely spirit floated away from the broken lantern. I rapidly  snatched the mended lantern and ran after the spirit to a stoney tunnel, hearing Sikrinerk's voice in my ears: "Quick! You can't let it get away!"
I almost lost a sight to her, until I arrived to a large room with several doors lining the walls. The spirit floats at the center, pondering where it will go.
When I finally approach the spirit, I slowed down back to gait. I didn't want to scare her away - not now, I was not ready to lose her. I would fail my mission - and the thought of that felt overwhelming. I looked at the spirit gently when I approached her - I would coax her back to the lantern. The spirit looks at me with a suspicious glance, but nevertheless floated towards the lantern, touched it with her nose and with a bright light the lantern absorbed her back. I knew it - force would have not helped with this spirit.
Sikrinerk suggested me to name her - and I did.
"Your name will be Vieno."

After I managed to catch Vieno back to the lantern, I looked around the room I was in. The roof was so high I almost couldn't see where it ends. I was stuck inside these barren, stoney walls, filled with doors. And when they started to spin around me, I felt dizzy, and pressed my paws tighly against the rough floor, tightening my grip of the lantern since I almost felt like the floor was spinning, too.
When doors finally stopped rotating around me, I was left with a choice of two doorways. They both lead to open, totally different kind of areas. Were they portals, instead of doorways?
Lost in my thoughts and confused of what just had happened, I suddenly heard the voice of Sikrinerk. My spirit guide was there to help me again - and she said:
"
Each door will offer you a new challenge. You must pass through at least three doorways to be granted access to the shrine. Gather your strength, and stay alert."
Both of those areas seemed calm and safe - I would have liked to explore both of them. But I had to choose between a bright forest and a wide tundra area. And I chose the last one. A lonely wolf was staring back at me from there.
I entered the portal, immediately noticing a cool, refreshing air against my fur. It felt quite liberating after the labyrinth and endless stoney walls around me. I looked behind - and as I had speculated - the portal had disappeared. I had to continue, there was no going back.
I followed the wolf, who lead me to a cliff. They waited till I was close, and with a sharp, haunting howl they jumped.

[ ENTRY 1 ]
The Golden Eagle | Tokotas LoRE | C3 | SQ by KULKELO
Somehow I sensed this was no ordinary wolf - and soon I noticed that the howl shifted into a scream of an eagle. A large, golden eagle appeared from the mist below, with glowing yellow eyes and incredibly beautiful, shining feathers.
At first I hesistated. Would I manage the fall? But if this was not what I had imagined, I had  not seen anything like this before.
So I took a leap off the cliff,
my heart beating wildly. But after a short fall I noticed how how air supported my body - I could fly in this golden mist!
At first it was difficult to control my body, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I caught up the eagle, and we flew side by side. It was like a dream which felt longer than it actually was - but ended too early.
The eagle lead me to Nagruk, who smiled at me.
"Well done! The rules of this place don’t always work how you expect, but you had the confidence in yourself to know you could face anything. You’re clearly ready to face what comes next."

ENTRY 2 ]
My Own Dead Eyes | Tokotas LoRE | C3 | SQ by KULKELO
Three portals, only one challenge left before I would arrive to the Shrine.
From bright forest, dark forest and snory mountainside I chose the dark forest. Whispers coming from inside the portal got me too curious. So I stepped in.
The sudden silence of the forest when I step in unsettles me. My paws felt heavy when I slowly walk forward for a while, only the sounds of dry twigs crackling below my paws.
When whispers began again, they almost seem to came from my own head instead of outside it. I feel an urge to follow them further in the dark forest. I was afraid, and those whispers didn't make me feel any better - vice versa, they would drive me crazy if I wouldn't find their origin.
I continue to follow them, without caring about the creepy graveyard I had seen. I  could not care - I needed to know what these whispers wanted from me. This didn't make any sense. I sensed Vieno becoming nervous when whispers increased their intensity more and more. A mist was surrounding me - and suddenly they stopped. I was completely alone with my lantern in the frightening, suddenly dead silent forest.
I looked around, but it wasn't easy to see anything - but when I spotted the dark shape lying on the ground. Carefully I went closer to it - just to see it was a corpse. A corpse which looked exactly like me. Immeadetly I took a step back, shocked of the sight - it was my own corpse.

ENTRY 3 ]
Trapped in Visions | Tokotas LoRE | C3 | SQ by KULKELO
After I had encountered my own dead corpse in the forest, I ran for my life. Unfortunately I couldn't see around very well in the misty, dark forest. When I stopped to rest, the ground below me opened up - a trap door! I fell - fortunately it was not a long fall. I was stuck inside stoney walls again. I looked around and saw torches bringing light to uneven walls - and just in front of me I saw a large door, filled with green, faintly glowing runes. I rised my head to look upwards, examining those runes - just to notice that a large eye was looking back at me from the door. It was no carving or a sculpture -  but a real large jewel which lookced like a living eye. I shivered. And when it looked back at me, I could hear a whisper, hissing inside my head: "What do you fear the most? Reveal it, and I will open."
No. I wouldn't let it know that what I feared the most was being left alone, forever. I had found my spirit. And when I'd have to give her away... I had no one. I had no other choice, I had to attempt forcing the door open. But the spirit of madness didn't go easy on me - he showed me his greatest fear, how he descended to madness, lonely and trapped in Anirniit Valley...
After the nightmare door I was exhausted, wishing for this journey to end - even a short rest would help. But I needed to continue.

EPILOGUE SIDE QUEST:
Together | Tokotas LoRE | Epilogue by KULKELO

A short time ago I was stuck in endless void. At that time I had thought that me and Vieno would be stuck there forever. Meelanik had devoured us - and I had heard no one escapes from Meelanik's belly.
But here I was now. The Great Aippaq themself had rescued us. Even Meelanik was not a match for them - the god of life and death.
Some time ago, when I hadn't even been aware of this journey I would face, I would not have believed what I will face. I had never thought I was anything special - just an ordinary tokota with scars on her face. I was no adventurer - yet I had managed to survive this journey, even though I did not even believe in myself.
Aippaq had not been happy with Meelanik and Sikrinerk. They told me this spirit had been a young pup whose life had ended too early. She hold onto the living world, unable to move on - and a living tokota was the only one who could capture her. Aippaq had given me the final choice - would I give her to Sikrinerk or Meelanik - or would I let Aippaq restore her. She would be reborn as a young tokota.
I smiled. There was no other choice for me than keep her with me. A growing, pure white light filled the cave I was in - a light so bright I had to shut my eyes. But when the light vanished
all spirits had vanished - only a little pup stood before me with unsteady legs.  I took her close to me, felt warmness in my heart.
I had the one who found this little, special spirit. She didn't belong with either Sikrinerk or Meelanik - but with me. She was the one that gave me meaning. And I would protect her, raise her as my own.
